Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area (AHRA)

Arkansas Headwaters Rec Area

The Arkansas River between Leadville and Pueblo is home to nearly one third of Colorado’s Gold Medal trout waters. It is also one of the nation’s most popular rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking. The AHRA is spread out over 152-miles of the Arkansas River as it follows alongside Highways 24, 285, and 50.

The northern entrance to Browns Canyon National Monument is located next to the Ruby Mountain Campground.

Colorado Parks & Wildlife manages the AHRA and requires reservations for all camping. Reservations can be made online at www.cpwshop.com or by calling 1-800-244-5613.

Campground maps and more info on regulations and parking passes can be found on the CPW website.
